Our Academic Mentorship Program started with a simple question we asked ourselves in class: what if every younger student had an older peer in their corner all year long?
In this program, high-achieving high school mentors partner with middle and elementary students who are working hard but don't always have extra academic support at home. We meet consistently across the school year, helping with organization, goal setting, study strategies, and tough units in reading and math. Because we're close in age, conversations feel more like hanging out with an older sibling than sitting with a tutor.
Each mentor is trained to give specific, actionable feedback - how to break down a confusing word problem, how to turn a C on a quiz into a B+ next time - and steady encouragement when school feels overwhelming. For donors and families, this program turns your support into something powerful: a consistent, relatable role model who shows up week after week and says, "You belong in advanced classes. You can do this."
